The Aging Face

Many changes occur in the face as it ages. Most notably, sagging or drooping develops as well as the formation of lines and wrinkles. There are changes occurring at the cellular level that create those visual changes. First, there is a decrease in collagen production starting in your late 20s. Collagen gives the skin strength and elasticity. As collagen decreases, wrinkling and sagging increase. Second, fat distribution in the face becomes uneven, shifts downward and loses volume. This can cause areas that sink, sag or both! Third, bone loss occurs as well. With a weakened skeletal support, the skin and soft tissue will respond accordingly.

The Aging Process

What Can You Do to Rejuvenate Your Face?

Botox or Dysport

Some strategic injections of Botox or Dysport, 2 FDA approved neurotoxins for cosmetic use, can help smooth wrinkles around the eyes, on the forehead and between the eyebrows. Results can last 3-5 months.

Restylane or Juvederm Fillers

Fillers can create a more youthful face by plumping areas that have lost volume. For example, the cheeks typically become more flattened out with age. Filler can create a fuller more rounded appearance typical of the youthful face. Fillers last about 1 year.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a process that introduces tiny wounds in the skin to kick-start your body’s natural healing process to produce collagen and elastin resulting in the reduction of fine lines, scars and improved skin texture.

Sculptra

Sculptra is a collagen-stimulator that is injected into the skin. It helps restore the underlying skin structure to diminish facial wrinkles. This works gradually as your body reproduces the lost collagen. Results last about 2 years.
