What are under eye hollows and how do I get rid of them?

Under-eye hollows, also known as tear troughs, refer to the sunken and darkened appearance of the area between the lower eyelid and the upper cheek. These hollows can create a tired and aged look, making individuals appear older or more fatigued than they actually are. Under-eye hollows are typically caused by the loss of volume and collagen in the region, combined with genetic factors and the natural aging process.

Under-eye hollows can be corrected with Juvederm or Restylane fillers at Mint Aessthetics & Skin

There are several treatment options to address under-eye hollows but I am going to focus on the most common non-surgical approach which is using a hyaluronic acid dermal filler such as Juvederm or Restylane. These fillers are injected into the tear trough area to add volume and lift the sunken skin, effectively reducing the appearance of hollows. The treatment is minimally invasive and provides immediate results. Results typically last about 1 year.

At Mint Aesthetics & Skin a full facial assessment will be performed first to determine if you are a good candidate for filler in the infraorbital region. If you have volume loss in the cheeks it may be necessary to correct that with filler first in order to have good cheek structure to support filler in the under eye area.

It is important to note that not everyone with dark circles under the eye can be corrected with filler. Some dark circles are caused by hyperpigmentation, excessive fatty tissue or poor skin elasticity. Filler typically will not correct under eye dark circles caused by these factors.
